GARRA RUFA FISH

Garra rufa fish originate from the thermal waters of the district of Kangal, Sivas in Turkey. In 1996 the Turkish government put a restriction on the export of garra rufa fish from Kangal, as the thermal waters with garra rufa fish had become too much of a tourist attraction. Since then, the garra rufa fish are bred in artificial environments.

There are more than a hundred different “garra” species and for an outsider, it is very hard to distinguish the original garra rufa fish from its family members. Many breeders and trading companies offer the fish using the name “doctor fish” and offer different “garra” species or even different types of species such as Chin-Chin fish.

Original garra rufa fish

Garra Rufa Europe offers original garra rufa fish that are bred and raised in a professional cultivation centre under the supervision of fish cultivating experts. At the head office of Garra Rufa Europe in the Netherlands, a constant stock of Garra Rufa fish is maintained to supply the global market.

All our garra rufa fish are offered at an average length of 3-4 cm. With this length the garra rufa fish are strong enough for transport and skin treatments. Garra Rufa Europe does not offer garra rufa fish below this size as the fish are not strong enough for transport and skin treatments.
